units of marines fan out to these countries, fbi agents are being sent to libya to investigate the murder of the american ambassador there and three other americans were killed. the fbi. we think of the fbi as a domestic agency, it's the fbi that's part of the u.s. government that has the authority to investigate deaths of americans in all other parts of the world. fbi did it in the embassy bombings in kenya, in tanzania in 1998, and the "uss cole" bombing in 2000 and mumbai bombings in india in 2008 and now the fbi is investigating in libya or at least we're told they are on their way. the fbi being dispatched to libya is yet another reminder what happened in libya appears to be a different kettle of fish than what is happening at all the other embassies and u.s. sites around the world today. the attack that killed the u.s. ambassador in libya appears to have been a coordinated, military-style assault by well-armed men who arrived at the scene quite separately from any civilian protest. given the militant groups known to operate in the area of benghazi and the types of attacks
. the situation in cairo changing hour to hour. ian lee live in cairo, thank you. >>> the fbi is expected to arrive in libya today to begin investigating the attack that killed four americans. cnn intelligence correspondent suzanne kelly joins us now from washington with the latest information about what the u.s. intelligence agencies knew and when they knew t.suzanne, what do you know? >> reporter: >> right, randi. cnn found out from a u.s. int intelligence source there was a cable sent warning about the existence of this anti-muslim film on the internet and also warning that they had seen an uptick in the number of people who had been clicking on the link and watching the film. they sent a cable from cairo warning them that that was out there. however, there was no specific warning attached that an attack was imminent. a couple of things intelligence did know going into this. there are well-equipped groups already in place in benghazi. a lot of al qaeda sympathizers there as well, these pockets of al qaeda sympathizers. knowledge of this film, when you pull the pieces together, you get
an fbi investigation team that is trying to track al-qaeda sympathizers who are thought to have turned the benghazi demonstration into a violent one. intelligence officials are also reviewing telephone records and computer traffic. libyan law enforcement agencies say some arrests have already been made. >>> this morning, we are also getting a look at the ruins of the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya, where ambassador chris stevens and the three other americans were killed. coming up at 7:15, how a note found in the debris is shedding light on stevens' mission in libya. >>> in overnight news, san francisco police are investigating a homicide. it happened in the bayview district early this morning. police say they responded to a report of shooting just after 1:30 at osceola lane and lasalle avenue. police haven't released details on the victim or suspects. >>> highway 1 in san mateo county is back open this morning after a fatal crash there shut down part of that roadway for several hours. that crash was reported just before 101:30 last night. so far, no word on the cause. >>> today, pa
to make the cuts to farm subsidies a bit bigger than the cuts to, say, the fbi. $1.2 trillion in defhich we pre much don't make a single choice about what is and is not worth funding. that administration conference call today was happening because the administration by law had to release this almost 400-page document. it was very, very long. telling us exactly where these sequestered cuts would fall. their bottom line from the text of their report, quote, education grants to state and local school districts supporting smaller classes would get cut. after-school programs and children with disabilities would suffer. the number of federal bureau of investigation agents, custom and border patrol agents, correctional officers and federal prosecutors would be slashed. the federal aviation administration's ability to oversee and manage a nation's airspace and air traffic control would be reduced. hope you don't have to fly anywhere. the department of agriculture'sesagriculture's e efforts would be curtailed. hope you don't have to eat anything. environmental protection aswrgc would be degraded.
to the ideologies of islam. they want to ensure that all trainers in our u.s. military, our fbi and other u.n. security agency's, be re-trained and brainwashed in political correctness towards islam. they have been forced islamic speech codes -- enforced islamic speech codes. the promise to set of the task force but the same organization to immediately begin this unprecedented purge of counterterrorism training in every federal agency across the board. it is breathtaking. never been done before. when members of congress, myself included, started to ask questions about identities of who these people were that are leading this purge in our government and what it was the work purging from our training materials, the obama administration told us the information was "classified." i am here to say that we are now very late in the game. we are quickly losing our sense of who we are as a nation. we are losing our ability to identify our radical islam as enemy. it is time to stand unashamed this week our freedom and values and john an unmistakable red line for our enemies -- draw an unmistakable red
and keep going at it. no one believes it because it's not true. >> how can he he know that? fbi teams are just arriving in libya. the investigation is underway. we know that they were armed -- the attackers at least in lib afterthe embassy were armed with rocket propelled grenades, you pick those up as you are heading toward the protest? >> you are exactly right. the white house has a handle on the intent of the attackers? they have no clue. common sense tells you it's bigger than a video. >> the problem is it goes to the rationale of the obama candidacy four years ago which was total condemnation of the bush policy. total condemnation of our position, especially in the muslim world. so the president, president obama preached empathy, preached an association based on his past and his education and based upon where he grew up and said, listen, i understand you. now the muslim world has rejected it and, in some ways, rejecting not only america but the obama presidential handout. >> that is certainly charles krauthammer's theory. he was on "special report" last night. >> this has nothing
morning, sam. we understand that a team of fbi agents has arrived in benghazi and they have begun their investigation to try to determine who was responsible for the attack on the u.s. consulate that killed ambassador stevens and three other americans. we know that they will be sifting through the rubble and ashes at the u.s. consulate and identifying individuals who may have played a role in that assault. we also understand that u.s. intelligence agent sits have deployed their assets across the country to try to pick up any intelligence that can help in that search. all indications right now according to libyan officials is this is a pre-planned attack. they have identified a few individuals. four are in custody of the libyan government. they believe these individuals may have some information that may be of value as to who is responsible for the attack. they also say they have several others under the libyan government surveillance. right now though all fingers are pointing to at least one militant group here that is closely affiliated with or at least inspired by al qaeda. that
$100 billion in cuts next year. i guarantee you. but doing it across the board, cuts into f.b.i., it cuts into our defense, it cuts into border patrol, it cuts into the basics and the heart of what we're doing and we cannot do that. the house passed a very specific plan for dealing with this last may. it is complete for us. now it's time for the senate to actually do their job and it's time for the president to send that out over to us. with that i yield back. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman from maryland. mr. van hollen: i reserve. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman reserves. the gentleman from new jersey. mr. garrett: madam speaker, at this time i yield to a third gentleman from california, over here, the gentleman from california, four minutes. the spear pro tempore: the gentleman from california four four -- for four minutes. >> thank you. thought i'd fool you. go to the left. it fools a lot of people. mr. speaker, i rise in support obviously of h.r. 6365, the national security and job protection act. do we need any more evidence that recent events in egypt and li
, to ensure that our trainers in the u.s. security, that the f.b.i., and other u.s. agencies would be retrained so they would be brainwashed in political correctness for islam. that's enforced islamic speech code here in the united states. and all done with the help of our president and secretary of state. it took only days for the obama administration to reply to this demand letter from the slammists promising to set -- from the islammists promising to set up a task force to immediately begin a purge of our counterterrorism training in every federal agency across the board. it has never been done before. but when members of congress, myself included, started to ask questions about the eye identities of who these people were who were leading this purge in our government and what it was they were purging from our training ters, the obama administration told us, the information was class identified. we could not know who was behind it. i'm here to say, my friends, that we are now today very late in the game. we're quickly losing our sense of who we are as a nation and we are losing o
